We're kicking off summer camp with Muscular Dystrophy Week this Sunday! This camp is designed for children ages 8-17 with Muscular Dystrophy to experience all the fun traditional outdoor activities with the safety and comfort of our trained staff.

Muscular Dystrophy takes away a key body muscle repair protein, resulting in decreased heart and lung function. Many campers depend on wheelchairs, so our accessible equipment and facilities mean that these campers can fish, zipline, swim and more! 🎣🏊🌲🏕️

Did you catch us on Good Morning Arkansas this summer? Channel 7 News interviewed our Director of Programs, Luke Nipper, and Morgan Butler Beyer, Diabetes Specialty Nurse at Arkansas Children’s to kick off Diabetes Week! This year, Camp Aldersgate implemented a new interactive glucose monitoring system called Camp Views. Arkansas Children’s donated the software, making it a game changer for our counselors and medical staff who could track our campers’ blood sugars in real time! This summer, Arkansas Children’s Audiology and Speech Pathology Department joined us during our CAAKBO camp session! This camp serves children with a variety of diagnoses and special needs including cardiac, arthritis, kidney and bleeding disorders, and oncology. We were excited to welcome a new group of campers with Arkansas Children’s AIM-HI program (Achieving in the Mainstream with Hearing Impairment). In addition to experiencing all the fun outdoor activities Camp Aldersgate has to offer, Audiologists and Speech Pathologists from Arkansas Children’s provided activities to help campers who are deaf or hard of hearing with education about their hearing devices and advocacy for themselves. We enjoyed partnering with Arkansas Children’s on this new addition to CAAKBO camp!

This June, Courtney Lane and Caroline Moore joined the Camp Aldersgate family as our first-ever summer communications interns!

Courtney is Camp Aldersgate’s photography intern this summer. 📷 A rising junior honors student attending the University of Kansas, Courtney is majoring in multimedia journalism and strategic communications. She has an eye for detail, which will come in handy when she is capturing special moments of the campers.

Caroline is the communications & public relations intern for the summer season. 📝 She will be a junior this fall at the University of Central Arkansas, double majoring in communication and public relations. Her passion for art and public speaking, combined with love for kids makes this the perfect opportunity.

This summer, nine staff members participated in “Camper For A Day,” an opportunity to experience a day in the life of our campers. Participants joined a cabin for a half day, participating in their activities and traditions. Some adventures included ziplining, canoeing, fishing, and arts and crafts. What a fun and rewarding experience to help staff see Camp Aldersgate through the eyes of our campers!
